The Power of Thank You

November 19, 2012

When you first started to talk, after “Dada,” “Mama,” “cat,” and “dog,” your parents probably taught you the importance of saying, “please” and “thank you.” For most toddlers, “please” comes fairly easily. When you say “please” you’re more likely to get what you want.  The cause and effect is immediate. But “Thank you” is about goodwill — and the future.  Those are pretty abstract concepts for a toddler. So “please” tends to stick, while “thank you” falls by the wayside. What a shame.

Take a look at my “The Power of Thank You” article that was published by Cutter Consortium to learn more about how to use appreciation to your advantage.

When you begin preparing any substantial communication whether it is verbal (i.e. presentation) or written (i.e. detailed email,) you probably start by thinking about the content – what you want to say.

While content is critically important, I propose you think deeply about content, not first, not second, not third, not even fourth, but fifth.

Take a look at the Deliberate Communication article I’ve written for Cutter Consortium to see what you should think about before you focus on content.
